Depression? Anxiety? Relationship Issues or Concerns?
We Can Help.

Our Services

Counselors are trained to assist people with life’s issues and personal or relationship problem areas. Our goal is to help our clients improve their lives and for them to move in a direction that helps them resolve the concerns that brought them into therapy. Whatever the basis of your concern, we are available for help. If we do not believe that we are best suited to meet your needs, we will work with you to give you a referral to assist you in getting the best help available.

Family Therapy:

Counselors have at least a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. We at Smithson Valley Counseling Center are specifically trained in systems theory, a base that best lends itself to understanding families, couples, and parent-child problems and concerns. Family systems is like a 3-D perspective. We think generationally, and contextually. We look at strengths, liabilities, triggers; we closely observe and give feedback on what we see and hear from our clients. We are trained to understand a person’s issues in the context of the whole person; including their past as well as the current situation.

Family relationships can be highly dynamic and complex. If issues become serious, they can greatly affect all other areas of your life and the lives of your loved ones. If your family issues have reached this point, Smithson Valley Counseling Center can help you to resolve or cope better with them. Our family therapy areas include premarital and marriage counseling, as well as counseling for children, adolescents and adults. We have a play therapy room for our youngest clients, although all ages can benefit from sand tray and other expressive therapies.

Drug or Alcohol Abuse:

Do you have a family member who has a problem with drugs and/or alcohol? Are they experiencing problems at work or at home? Then it is time to seek help.

Not sure if they have a problem and are concerned that they might? Then take a step in the right direction and seek help.

Overcoming and living with an addiction is a difficult thing and therapy can help. Even the founders of AA realized that counseling in addition to 12-Step work often produced the best results.

Other Specialty Areas:

In addition to family and individual therapy, there are a number of other areas we are trained for including:

  • Play Therapy

  • Sand Tray Work

  • Art Therapy

  • Adolescent and Adult Concerns

  • Crisis Counseling

  • EMDR

  • Hypnotherapy

  • Trauma Recovery

  • Eating Disorder Counseling

  • Christian Counseling

  • Help with Women's Issues

We work with people of all ages with child abuse histories, as abuse in childhood can have a lingering impact.

Couples who are looking to rebuild after infidelity have also benefited from our counseling. This is not an easy thing to accomplish, but if both people are willing, we can help couples recover.

If your problem area is not listed, give us a call or contact us to see if we can help with your specific concern.
