From service to stability - we’re walking this journey with you.

Veterans Support Services

You Served. Now It's Our Turn…

At Smithson Valley Counseling Center (SVCC), we recognize that transitioning from military service to civilian life isn’t always straightforward. The effects of deployments, combat stress, and long absences from home can linger long after the uniform comes off. And too often, veterans and their families face those challenges alone.

You don’t have to.

Whether you're dealing with trauma, struggling to adjust post-separation, feeling disconnected, or stuck in patterns like substance use or avoidance -you’re not alone. We've walked with many veterans down this road, and we know what strength it takes to reach out.

Our support is local, accessible, and personal. We walk alongside veterans and military families - offering practical help, connection to resources, peer support, and counseling grounded in real experience and respect.

At SVCC, we believe healing isn’t about forgetting. It’s about finding a way to honor what you carry, while finding peace with the past, and permission to live, with honor, beyond it.

Our team is here to support you - not as distant professionals, but as committed allies. We’re ready when you are.

SVCC is a Tricare Provider (Tricare West, Tricare Select, Tricare Prime, Tricare for Life.)  For assistance in obtaining a referral, please contact our excellent intake and authorization personnel at 830-624-6846 or 830-438-3900 or via email at iis@smithsonvalleycounseling.com

We can directly apply for the necessary authorizations. If you have questions, please contact our Practice Administrator, Tracy McDearman.

We know navigating the process for community care authorization can feel frustrating and overwhelming - and that’s okay. Getting this authorization is the key to accessing local mental health services without any copay, making care more convenient and tailored just for you. While authorizations currently come in six-month increments and can sometimes be hard to secure, you’re not alone in this. If you hit any roadblocks, don’t hesitate to reach out to Representative Chip Roy’s office for support - they’re ready to help you through the process. Once authorized, you’ll be able to receive care close to home without having to navigate the VA system directly, avoiding provider changes or referrals that don’t feel like the right fit. We’re here to help you access the care you deserve, step by step.
